#GivingTuesday: Turns 'Selfies' Into '#UNselfie' Pics

Following
This article is more than 10 years old.

Thankfully, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are now behind us, and we can truly kick-off the holiday season, today, with #GivingTuesday.

What is #GivingTuesday?

#GivingTuesday is a simple idea, started by the 92nd Street Y in New York and their partner the United Nations Foundation, to celebrate and encourage giving. In this time when we all spend so much time and money buying gifts for the holidays, #GivingTuesday is a good reminder that we should also give some time and money to those non-profits who are doing so much good in the world.

This year—the year that  “selfie” was named word of the year—we are all encouraged to take and post an “UNselfie” to our social media channels. It’s simple, just…

1)      Take a piece of paper and write the name of a charity you support with your time or money.

2)      Take your picture holding up the piece of paper in front of you.

3)      Upload the photo to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and other social media channels and remember to include the hashtags #GivingTuesday and #UNselfie

Sharing your charitable efforts this one time of year isn’t intended to glorify your virtue, but rather to inspire others to give, and to educate your friends and family about the organization you choose to support.

Happy Giving Tuesday!
